Soundtrack for a Revolution
Synopsis
A unique re-visiting of the height of the Civil Rights movement and the attempt to redress the racism of America’s past, SOUNDTRACK FOR A REVOLUTION gathers together many of the famous anthems that defined both the movement and an era, with each performed by contemporary musicians, against archive footage of the struggle many people fought for their right to be seen as equal.
Featuring the voices of artists John Legend, The Roots, Wyclef Jean, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Joss Stone, Richie Haven, Mary Mary, Anthony Hamilton, T.V. on the Radio and Angie Stone, as well as interviews with many of the activists of the time, Bill Gutentag and Dan Sturman’s (Nanking) documentary recalls the civil rights movement and how a collection of protest songs inspired them to continue their struggle.
A moving tribute to the power of music and the impact of peaceful protest, SOUNDTRACK FOR A REVOLUTION is an important document of a turbulent era in American civil history.
“It’s the kind of film that will have audiences clapping and singing along. And why not? The images and stories may be familiar, but it’s history worth retelling.” — – Mike Hale, The New York Times
“For anyone who is either ignorant of or has simply forgotten the extent to which broken bones and unbowed heads paved the way for the Obama Age, it’s a much-needed history lesson.” — – David Fear, Time Out New York
